Registered Nurse - Telemetry
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Telemetry unit caring for cardiac patients including those with congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and post cardiac catheterization.
- Floating required as needed, with potential to float every shift.
- Night shift (12-hour shifts), approximately 36 hours per week.
- Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend).
- Patient care includes cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine), sheath pulls, TR bands, and femstop.
- Unit uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication.
- Orientation: 24 hours.
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in inpatient and acute care settings
- Telemetry experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), DOU (Direct Observation Unit), and Intermediate Care settings
- Experience with remote monitoring
- Experience with pre- and post-cardiac catheterization and pre- and post-cardiac surgery care
- Sheath removal experience
- Competency in accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care management, and PICC line management
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips such as Diltiazem and Amiodarone
- ACLS certification required
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge nurse experience.
- NIH Stroke Certification.

Scheduling & Shift Details
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts (18:45 to 7:15).
- 36 hours per week offered.
- Floating required as needed, potentially every shift.
- Weekend shifts approximately every other weekend.
- RTO (Request Time Off) limited to 7 days max after auto-offer.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, DOJ sex offender, and education verification.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel).
- Immunizations/titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable).
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire within 30 days.
- Must complete medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules prior to start.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates).
- Must complete annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education.
- Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 82% within 72 hours of start; remediation process in place for failures.
- Must complete Epic training unless exempted; optional Epic test-out available for experienced users.
- Must complete confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, hospital policies, and other required facility documents.
- Must obtain facility badge; passport-style photo required for badge creation.
Additional Notes
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Consolidation to centralized office and reassignment to different units may occur mid-contract.
- Must interview with nurse manager prior to finalizing offer.
This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment for experienced telemetry RNs with cardiac care expertise, providing critical care to complex cardiac patients on night shifts with floating responsibilities.
