Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs


Job Summary

  • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units.
  • Float to other medical units as needed (no non-medical units).
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
  • Care for a diverse patient population with chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
  • Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
  • At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (450+ beds).

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
  • Utilize electronic health records (Epic).
  • Manage IV therapy, including heparin and insulin drips.
  • Operate equipment such as IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.

Orientation and Training

  • Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation + ~5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
  • 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).

Additional Information

  • Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
  • Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours before the start of the 13-week contract.
  • Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment.

Work Environment

  • Night shift (7pm-7am).
  • Floating within medical units only.
  • Use of Epic electronic charting system.
