Description
Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (typically 3 shifts per week, 18:45 to 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
Job Description
- Must have Orthopedic nursing experience (minimum 2 years of specialty experience required).
- Unit accepts first-time travelers with EPIC experience; prior travel experience is not required.
- Patient population includes Orthopedic, Neuro spine, Med-surg, and Post-surgical patients.
- Fast-paced unit focused on orthopedic and spine patients requiring strong pain management skills.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases.
- Float requirement: Travelers must float to other med-surg units as needed based on census.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend required; if an RN calls out on a weekend, they must make up that time on a weekend.
- Scheduling: Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon).
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; no holiday RTO approved.
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Skills: IV start, Telemetry.
- Certifications: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), NIH Stroke Certification.
- Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), Charge Nurse experience, Level I Trauma experience.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Orthopedic nursing experience.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific orientation modules including medication safety, confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and annual compliance training.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
- Must obtain facility badge photo immediately after signing contract (passport-style photo on white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses).
- Must complete Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials.
- Required to complete background checks and education verifications prior to start.
- Must complete required competency exams and skills checklists as applicable.
Additional Notes
- No holiday time off allowed during contract.
- Maximum 7 days allowed for any time off requests (RTO) during assignment.
- Candidate must be flexible to float to other med-surg units as needed.
- Covid patients are cared for on all units unless in ICU; no specific Covid cohorting.
This position is ideal for RNs with orthopedic experience seeking a travel contract in a fast-paced acute care setting with night shifts and weekend requirements.
