Laboratory Technician (Medical Laboratory)
Location: Brewster, Washington
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday - Thursday, 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM (10-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
Perform technical, clerical, and information system procedures in various laboratory areas including Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, and specimen procurement. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to provide timely and accurate test results. Monitor quality control and participate in Laboratory Quality Improvement programs to ensure high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize work and manage time to complete technical tasks within realistic limits. Operate and adjust laboratory instruments; use computers to operate instruments and handle data.
- Analyze and interpret laboratory results across multiple areas: hematology, chemistry, special chemistry, serology, blood bank, microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Maintain instruments and laboratory sections, including scheduled maintenance and monitoring consumables.
- Perform specimen collection on patients of all ages, including venipuncture, capillary draws, culturing sites, and instruct nursing staff on proper sample collection methods.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Laboratory Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Phlebotomy skills.
Additional Information
- Work involves analyzing biological samples for chemical content, blood typing, and identifying abnormalities such as malignancies, bacteria, parasites, or genetic abnormalities.
- Provide technical information about test results to physicians, family members, and researchers.
- Must be able to operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
This position does not require prior travel experience.
