Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ER (Travel/Contract)

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Patient Ratio: 1:3-5
  • Unit Size: 101 beds, approximately 250 visits per day
  • Float Requirement: Must float between Emergency Observation Unit and Emergency Behavioral Health based on need
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 4 weekend days per 6-week period; may be as frequent as every other weekend
  • Unit Systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR, daily shift huddles
  • Patient Population: Regional referral and tertiary care center serving all populations
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Dress Code: Navy or white scrubs
  • Additional: Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute - must be completed onsite within first 30 days)
  • Skills: IV start, triage, telemetry
  • Competency Testing:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must score 82% or higher; remediation process applies)
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
    • Color Blind Testing (within 1 year)

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (with exceptions for past positives)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening: 9-panel, within 6 months of start
  • N95 fit mask (can be completed onsite if needed)
  • Physical exam (per Aya Healthcare standards; not required by client for this profile)
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Education verification for highest degree earned
  • References and performance evaluations as applicable

Documentation and Onboarding Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no head coverings except glasses, business attire)
  • Signed confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment
  • Completion of medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules
  • Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials
  • Various accounting and compliance documents (W4, tax forms, emergency contact, arbitration agreement, etc.)

Important Notes

  • No return-to-office (RTO) after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
  • Floating between units is mandatory based on patient care needs
  • Must complete all required certifications and competency exams before or shortly after start date
  • Strict adherence to weekend and shift requirements is expected

This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment in an emergency setting with a focus on critical care skills and flexibility.
