Interventional Radiology Travel/Contract Job – Wilmington, North Carolina
Job Details
- Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Interventional Radiology)
- Location: Wilmington, NC
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 16 weeks
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 4x10-hour shifts (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Average Daily Census: 8 patients
- Visits per Day: 2
- Call Requirement:
- Weekend call only (Saturday/Sunday), rotated 1:5 with 4 full-time RTs and 1 travel RT
- Weekend call shift runs Friday 5:00 PM to Monday 7:00 AM
- Approximately two 24-hour call shifts in a five-week period
- Weekend Requirement: 3-4 weekends per contract
- Return to Office (RTO): 7 days max
Patient Population & Procedures
- Acute inpatient, emergency department emergent, and outpatient routine procedures
- Common diagnoses: bleeds, cancer, end-of-life care, fibroids, vascular disease, urological comorbidities, failure to thrive
- Trauma Level I procedures including splenic, liver, and pelvic bleeds
Special Procedures & Equipment
- Interventional body procedures:
- Port, pleurx, gastrostomy tube, nephrostomy tube, perm cath placements
- Embolizations for bleeding and fibroids
- Liver cancer treatment/SIRT, chemoembolization
- Trauma Level I procedures (splenic, liver, pelvic bleeds)
- Equipment used: Siemens single plane, GE Biplane, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, GE Innova IGS
- Unit systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in North Carolina
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- ARRT Radiography (ARRT R) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficiency in Special Procedures including:
- Angioplasty
- Chest tube placement
- Embolization
- Gastrostomy tube placement
- Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement
- Liver biopsy
- Mesenteric angiogram
- Thoracentesis
- Catheter/drain exchange
Certifications & Licenses
- License: Must hold a valid Radiologic Technologist license (ARRT R)
- Required Certifications:
- ARRT Radiography (ARRT R)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred Certifications:
- ARRT VI (Vascular Interventional)
- PACS, TIPS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt)
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Ultrasound
- EKG lead placement and recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
- Vascular Closure Systems (Perclose, StarClose)
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation based on experience
- Scrubs provided
- Interview required prior to offer
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
- Local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search
- Education verification for highest degree relevant to profession
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year (N95 or PAPR training acceptable)
- Immunizations and titers required or boosters for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Various facility-specific documents and agreements must be completed prior to start, including confidentiality and education modules
Additional Requirements
- Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start
- Radiation badge required for interventional radiology techs
- North Carolina state-specific registry and exclusion list checks within 90 days prior to start
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (not required for non-clinical)

- Work environment includes trauma and acute care settings with use of rapid response teams
This position is ideal for experienced Interventional Radiology technologists with prior travel experience seeking a challenging role in a Level I trauma center environment with advanced imaging and interventional procedures.
