Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Tech - General

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: 07:00 AM - 5:30 PM; off on Wednesdays
  • Call, float, and weekend requirements: None
  • Work setting: High-risk OB/GYN residency clinic, outpatient setting
  • Daily caseload: 8-10 ultrasound scans per day, working solo in one room
  • Equipment: GE ultrasound machines
  • Systems: Epic and Viewpoint electronic medical records

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Ultrasound Technologist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of ultrasound technologist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment; not a first-time traveler
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification
  • Experience in management roles
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonography experience
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic medical records system

Preferred Qualifications

  • RDMS-AB certification
  • Experience with portable ultrasound machines and general ultrasound procedures
  • Experience with amniocentesis and umbilical artery Doppler
  • Additional OB/GYN skills: fetal echo, inter/intra-orbital measurements, nuchal translucency screen, umbilical cord Doppler
  • Additional certifications: ARDMS-AB, ARDMS-FE, NT (Nuchal Translucency)

Patient Diagnoses Commonly Seen

  • Dating scans
  • Biophysical profile (BPP)
  • Growth scans
  • Amniotic fluid index (AFI)
  • Gynecological scans including pelvic mass and abnormal endometrium
  • Biometry and crown rump length measurements

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Orientation typically 40 hours, dependent on experience
  • Scrubs not provided; royal blue color recommended
  • Interview required prior to offer

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree relevant to profession
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required
  • Fit mask testing required (N95 or PAPR training acceptable)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines each; boosters required if negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer or series; if negative/equivocal, facility-specific declination form required
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
  • Must complete medication safety training and other required competency exams as applicable
  • Must provide professional references as per agency requirements

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badge required only if applicable to specialty (not specified for this role)
  • Candidate must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation (white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses)
  • Candidate must complete facility confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
  • Candidate must complete the Corp ID and I-Learn account setup process promptly after contract signing to avoid start delays

This position is ideal for experienced ultrasound technologists with strong OB/GYN and fetal ultrasound skills who are confident working independently in a high-risk outpatient clinic setting. Prior travel experience and required certifications are mandatory.
