Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Nights
Location: Saginaw, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours per Day: 12
Job Summary
Provide direct nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit using the nursing process. Responsibilities include ongoing patient assessment, delivering skilled nursing interventions, medication administration, treatments, patient education, and assisting with transfers. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish and update patient care plans. Function as a team leader/member, delegating and overseeing support staff while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and hospital policies.
Patient Ratio
- Target ratio: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including Neuro PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
- Current American Heart Association ACLS certification
- Active NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Additional Information
- Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius for this 13-week contract (local candidates considered)
- Must comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and hospital policies related to patient care
Responsibilities Breakdown
- 40%: Assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services per physician’s plan of care and evidence-based practice
- 30%: Direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, responding to alarms, and assisting with transfers
- 20%: Evaluate effectiveness of treatment plans and participate in updates with the care team
- 10%: Maintain knowledge and compliance with regulations and hospital policies
This position offers the opportunity to work in a full-service hospital with advanced surgical care, a level II trauma center, and a comprehensive stroke center.
