Description
Registered Nurse – CVICU (Maryland, Largo)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 – 19:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Start Date: August 10, 2026
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Patient Population / Diagnoses
- Cardiac Surgery: CABG, valve procedures, combined CABG/valve
- Coronary Artery Disease: STEMI, NSTEMI, Atrial Fibrillation with Rapid Ventricular Response, cardiogenic shock
- Vascular: peripheral bypasses, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)
- Thoracic: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)
Job Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Work Expectations
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- Floating required within the specialty, sister units, and lower acuity areas as needed
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID
- I-9 attestation and E-Verify compliance
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, nationwide and county searches, sex offender registry, OFAC, education verification, and Maryland State Exclusions List
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit test within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
- TB screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year, or 2-step PPD as required; annual updates required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption for 2025-26 season
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary)
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid white/beige background)
- Signed job description and confidentiality agreement prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific forms including badge application and dress code review
Competency Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (score ≥80%)
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score ≥80%)
- Color blindness testing
- Other certifications as applicable per unit or specialty
Additional Notes
- Floating may include sister units and lower acuity areas within the specialty
- Epic Portfolio Training Test Out available for eligible candidates with recent Epic experience
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training may be required depending on unit assignment
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs seeking a travel contract opportunity with a focus on cardiac and vascular critical care.
