Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Intermediate Medical Care (IMC)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with recent ICU experience to work in an Intermediate Critical Care Unit. The unit provides specialized care for patients with conditions such as DKA, Sickle Cell, Sepsis, Respiratory Distress, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, Stroke, and stroke-like symptoms. The role includes rapid response duties and requires floating to Med Surg as needed.


Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:4 on IMC; floating to Med Surg with 1:6 ratio
  • Weekend requirement: Minimum 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Self-scheduling with staff approval
  • Dress code: Navy or Navy and White scrubs
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Skills and clinical competencies:
    • Titration of cardiac drips and vasoactive drips
    • Use of rapid response teams
    • Feeding tube management
    • Heparin protocols
    • Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA)
    • Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ventilated patients
  • Wound care and wound vac management
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • NHISS certification

Patient Care Environment & Equipment

  • Unit uses PYXSIS and EPIC systems
  • Equipment includes Bipap, Cpap, Optiflow
  • Functions as a Rapid Response RN

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, DOJ sex offender, and education verification
  • Physical exam within 1 year (or 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative)
  • Required immunizations and titers: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable)
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and orientation checklists
  • Must complete medication safety training and provide certificate of completion
  • Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 82% within 72 hours of start (3 attempts allowed)
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (for North Carolina travel candidates)
  • Must complete annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education as required
  • Must provide professional references as per agency requirements

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • Floating to Med Surg required as needed
  • Missed shifts should be made up within the same week or added to the end of the contract
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Candidates must complete Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving email instructions to avoid start delays
