Registered Nurse (Medical Acute Care) - Illinois, Peoria
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical Acute Care
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Unit Size: 20 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
- Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays per year
- Call/Standby: May be required depending on staffing needs
- Floating: Travel RNs float first; otherwise, rotation based on last who floated
- Orientation: 3 days unit/department specific orientation plus 12 non-billable orientation hours
Patient Care Environment
- General medical unit with common diagnoses typical of medical acute care
- No ventilators on the unit
- Some patients on telemetry monitored by dedicated tele/monitor techs; bedside RNs do not read telemetry strips
- Telemetry monitors are Phillips brand with central monitoring station
- Charge nurse present 24/7; ideally does not take patient assignment but may if short-staffed
- House supervisor available 24/7
- Patient care technicians (PCTs) available 24/7 with ratios:
- Day: 1 PCT per 6-7 patients
- Night: 1 PCT per 10 patients
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA)
- Must pass a comprehensive drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
Experience and Skills
- General medical nursing experience required
- Strong teamwork and communication skills essential
- Preference for candidates with general medical/surgical experience
Additional Information
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- No specific scrub color or dress code preference
- Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
