Registered Nurse (ER) - Illinois

- Night shift
- 12-hour shifts
- Typical hours per week: 36
- Shift start times: 6:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 6:30 PM
- Self-scheduling available; block scheduling possible
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun)
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday (specific holidays listed)
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating only if agreed upon at hire
Unit Details
- ER with 16 beds (12 private)
- Not a trauma facility
- Separate triage area available; travelers may work triage if credentialed
- No separate holding area; 1 safe psych/seclusion room in ER
- Security in-house 24/7, intermittent presence in ER
- Average patient volume: ~65 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Charge nurse present 24/7 (free charge, no patient assignment)
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with procedures, ADLs, vitals, splinting, transporting, sitter duties, EKGs
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- All ages
- Common diagnoses: Sepsis, congestive heart failure (CHF), pneumonia, suicidal ideation, abdominal pain
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- TNCC preferred (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Manage common ER drips including vasopressors and insulin
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips (no telemetry/monitor techs present)
- Assist with lab draws (RNs and techs draw labs)
- Work alongside respiratory therapists who manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and other respiratory equipment; RNs troubleshoot equipment as needed
- Radiology services: X-ray available in ER; CT located just outside ER with radiology transport unless patient unstable or code stroke
Orientation & Onboarding
- 12 non-billable orientation hours (approximately 1 shift)
- Unit-specific orientation provided
Additional Notes
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Active Illinois nursing license required or proof that application process has been initiated
- Scrub color: Navy blue (not provided)
- Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles (not relevant for pay details here)
