Setting

• Emergency department in a mid-size hospital near Indianapolis

Required Qualifications

• Active RN role
• 2+ years of recent emergency department experience
• Recent experience working in a critical access hospital or community hospital
• Previous experience boarding patients in the emergency department
• Ability to float to med-surg and CCU as needed
• Cerner familiarity
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• NIHSS

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC
• ENPC

Schedule Requirements

• Every third weekend
• Flexibility to work holidays if needed
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing coverage

Unit Details

• 26 beds
• 3 trauma bays
• 4-bed fast track area
• No separate triage area
• ER holds are intermixed in the department
• 60 patients per day
• Typical ratio: 1:4
• Nurses monitor and read telemetry strips
• Radiology is close to the ER; staff usually transport, with the nurse accompanying critical patients
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
• Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7

• Abdominal pain
• Altered mental status
• STEMI
• Stroke
• Chest pain
• Pediatric through geriatric patients
• COVID
• Shortness of breath
• Moderate sedation

Additional Notes

• 1–2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor
• Navy blue scrubs
• No facial piercings except nose piercing with a mask
• No gauges
• Tattoos may be visible if not inappropriate or vulgar
• No call or standby requirement
