Registered Nurse — Step Down Unit

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Weekend requirement: three weekends in every six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday

Assignment Details

• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Primary location: Midtown
• First to float within skillset
• May float to another campus in Indiana and potentially to a Kentucky campus
• Cross-campus float notice: 2 hours
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Current active compact RN license
• AHA BLS
• AHA ACLS
• NIHSS
• 2 solid years of Stepdown experience plus 1 travel contract, or 5 years of solid Stepdown experience if no travel experience
• Recent EPIC experience
• Must pass tele tests
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

Clinical Experience / Skills

• Stepdown cardiac/neuro care
• Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation
• Post–heart cath care
• Titration of drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, Cardene, nitroglycerin, insulin, and heparin
• NIHSS and strong neuro assessments
• Sepsis care
• Chest tubes
• Peripheral IV insertion

Patient Population

• Post-procedure cardiac patients
• STEMI/NSTEMI
• Carotid endarterectomy
• Sepsis
• Neurology patients including CVAs, seizures, and possible TBI
• DKA

Unit Notes

• 19-bed blended unit
• Day shift ratio: 1:5–6
• CN will take patients
• Stepdown RNs will also take MS/T patients

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs
• No competing health system or agency logos

Additional Notes

• Clinical interview required
• Bi-weekly orientation
• COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change
