Description

Registered Nurse — Step Down Unit

Location

  • Evansville, Indiana

Employment Type

  • Travel

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Schedule

  • 12-hour nights
  • Shift time: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
  • Weekend requirement: three weekends in every six-week schedule
  • Holiday requirement: every other holiday

Required Qualifications

  • Current active compact RN license
  • AHA BLS
  • AHA ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • 2 solid years of Stepdown experience plus 1 travel contract, or 5 years of solid Stepdown experience if no travel experience
  • Recent EPIC experience
  • Ability to pass tele tests

Clinical Focus

  • Stepdown cardiac/neuro care
  • Post-procedure cardiac care
  • STEMI/NSTEMI care
  • Carotid endarterectomy
  • Sepsis
  • Neuro care, including CVAs, seizures, and possible TBI
  • DKA

Key Skills

  • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation
  • Post heart cath care
  • Drip titration and initiation
  • Strong neuro assessments
  • Chest tube care
  • PIV insertion
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

Work Setting

  • 19-bed blended unit with designated Stepdown and MS/T beds
  • Stepdown nurses may care for MS/T patients
  • First to float within skillset
  • May float across campuses with short notice

Additional Notes

  • Clinical interview required
  • No local candidates within 40 miles
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Teaching hospital setting; may require precepting students and new hires
  • 3 call-ins can result in termination
