Description
Medical Surgical Nurse
Overview
- Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
- Employment type: Travel/contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12 hours
- Hours per week: 36
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Start setting: Hospital orientation is required during the first week, and the traveler must be available each day for classes
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Must pass EKG testing before start
Schedule and Assignment Details
- Floating is required
- Weekend requirement: 12–16 weekends per contract
- Patient ratio: 1:5–6
- RTO after booking is not allowed; additional RTO or call-offs may result in cancellation and DNR
- Travelers may be assigned to storm or hurricane response duties and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office may occur, and reassignment to units as needed is possible

- Nasal cannula
- Non-invasive airway management

- Oxygen face masks and portable oxygen tanks

- Telemetry on-unit monitoring

Unit Notes
- Typical diagnoses include dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture
- COVID isolation area is available
- Stepdown patients are managed by stepdown staff, not medical-surgical staff
