Description

Medical Laboratory Tech (Generalist)

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Primarily day shift with weekend rotation; 5 x 8-hour shifts per week
Hours per Week: 40

Overview

Performs laboratory analyses on blood and other body fluids to support diagnosis and treatment, with responsibility for accurate and timely work across all clinical departments of the laboratory.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Lab Technician (1 year of experience)
  • Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
  • MT(ASCP) or MT(AMT) or MT(NCCLS)
  • MLS(ASCP) or MLS(AMT) or MLS(NCCLS)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Medical Technologist experience

Preferred Experience

  • Blood bank experience
  • Microbiology experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned laboratory duties accurately and according to established procedures
  • Prepare, process, and analyze specimens using manual or automated methods
  • Verify results for accuracy, completeness, and quality control before release
  • Troubleshoot instrumental and procedural issues as needed
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, reagents, and inventory
  • Support implementation and evaluation of new procedures, products, or equipment
  • Collect specimens and verify patient identification before collection
  • Assist with training technical personnel and participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities
