Role Summary
- Supports perioperative surgical care for ophthalmologic, ENT, head and neck, plastics/reconstructive, and related procedures.
- Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
- One year of Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience
- One year of surgical technologist experience preferred.
- Experience in ophthalmology, ENT, head and neck surgery, plastics, or other surgical subspecialties preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain operating rooms for scheduled surgical procedures.
- Perform surgical scrub duties and establish sterile fields using aseptic technique.
- Organize instruments, supplies, equipment, and specialty items according to procedure and surgeon preference cards.
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, sponge/sharps/instrument counts, specimen handling, and room turnover.
- Maintain sterility, anticipate surgical team needs, and support efficient surgical flow.

- Follow Universal Protocol, patient identification, procedural verification, and surgical time-out processes.
- Adhere to AORN standards, infection prevention guidelines, Joint Commission requirements, and departmental policies.
- Participate in quality improvement, regulatory readiness, orientation, mentoring, and competency validation.
