Description
RN - PCU
Overview
- Travel RN position in a progressive care unit
- 48 hours per week guaranteed preferred
- Start date: 12/14
- Hours per week: 48
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Unit Details
- 18 beds
- Patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Self-scheduling with 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- No on-call requirement
- Floating may occur
- Royal blue uniform required
Clinical Focus
- Cares for patients with moderate physiologic instability
- Common patient types include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF, and trach patients
- Requires cardiac and respiratory monitoring
- Continuous cardiac monitoring is used
- Neurological monitoring and NIHSS are part of care
Equipment and Documentation
- Alaris pumps
- Kangaroo pump
- Pyxis
- Computers available in every room
- Meditech documentation system
Nursing Support
- 2 PCTs and 1 unit secretary available
Procedures and Monitoring
- Oxygen therapy via nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and AirVo low flow
- Nursing interventions occur at least every 3-4 hours
- Vital signs every 4 hours
- Blood glucose monitoring every 4 hours
