SEMC - OB RN
Role
Registered Nurse in OB.
Location
Peru, Illinois
Contract Length
17 weeks
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekends in a 6-week schedule
- Holiday rotation required
Unit Details
- OB unit with 4 L&D beds, 1 LDRP bed, 1 OR suite, 1 PACU/recovery bed, 4 triage beds in the OB Flex area, and 6 postpartum beds
- AWHONN guidelines followed for ratios
- FY2025 births: 647
- Level 1 perinatal/nursery designation for the State of Illinois
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- NRP
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- EFM
- Negative drug screen for all panels
- Stabilization of the newborn
- Circulator for C/sections
Preferred Qualifications
- None stated
Clinical Responsibilities and Unit Expectations
- RNs titrate drips; heparin is managed by ICU or MedSurg, not L&D
- Common drips: Pitocin and Magnesium
- RNs and providers read FHR strips
- May be floated to OB, ICU, Med/Surg, and ED
- When floated outside scope, assignment is limited to sitter, helping hands RN, or patient care technician
- May float 0-3 shifts per week as needed
- May be floated between Ottawa and Peru locations mid-shift
- No floating to inpatient Behavioral Health
- No call or standby requirement unless low census for the shift
Additional Notes
- 12 hours of non-billable orientation
- Local rate applies within 50 miles of the facility
- OB techs on the unit are certified nurse aides and serve as surgical scrub techs for all C/sections
- OB on-call physician is typically available 24/7; no neonatology, but a newborn Peds physician is on call 24/7
