Description
Neurology Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel assignment in Newburgh, Indiana
- 13-week contract
- Day shift: 12 hours, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week; may accept 48-hour contracts upon request
- No local candidates within a 40-mile radius
- Primary location: Gateway
- Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
Schedule and Float
- No blocked schedule requests
- Weekend requirement: three weekends out of every six-week schedule
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday
- Float scope: first to float within skillset
- May float to Deaconess Midtown campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
- Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible
- 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Neurology (2 years of experience)
- Neurology experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Trauma experience
- Experience with Epic

Unit Details
- Neuro Surgical MS RN assignment
- 37-bed unit
- Patient ratio: days 1:5-6; nights 1:5-7
- CN takes partial patient assignment
Patient Population
- Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients, including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op cranis, cerebral angiogram
- General medical and psych
Skills and Procedures
- NIHSS
- Dysphagia screen
- Strong neuro assessments
- Basic tele interpretation
- Strict I&O
- Straight cath
- Foley care
- Initiate/titrate heparin drips
- Blood and blood product administration
- Venipuncture
- Blood cultures
- NG tubes
- Indwelling drain management
- Stable drips such as Protonix and Lasix
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: navy blue
- No competing health systems or agency logos on scrubs
- Three call-ins can result in termination
- COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change
