Description
RN - Med Surg
Overview
- Travel RN role in Nashville, Tennessee
- Unit: 12 Tower
- 36-bed unit
- 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week block
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS
- NIHSS
Unit Details
- Patient ratio: 1:4 / 1:5
- Floating: will float over core staff
- Documentation system: Meditech
Clinical Skills / Unit Experience
- Basic patient assessments and general care/maintenance for wounds, tracheostomy, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, strokes, and seizures
- Patient population may require dialysis or PCA pumps
- Only drip used on the unit is Heparin
- Post-op procedures include amputations, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs
Unit Environment
- Secretary every day and PRN techs
- Equipment includes PD Cyclers, Welch Allyn VS Carts, Hoyer Lift, Broda Chairs, and Alaris IV Pumps
- Bedside shift report, safety checks every 1-2 hours, and emphasis on communication and responsiveness
- HAI prevention includes CVC and Foley monitoring with standard precautions
- Fall prevention
- 100% medication scanning, including controlled substances
- Attendance per policy
