Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist
Location: Rushville, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: Nights
Hours per Week: 36
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Overview
Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist role responsible for obtaining, processing, and analyzing patient specimens to generate laboratory data used in diagnosis and treatment.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Lab Technician
- Current ASCP or AMT certification
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Applied Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science discipline, plus completion of an accredited MLT/CLS or MT/MLS program
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three months of related laboratory experience or training
Clinical Responsibilities
- Obtain, receive, process, analyze, and report laboratory specimen results
- Perform testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Blood Gas, and Phlebotomy
- Recognize abnormal test results and refer critical values to the Pathologist when required
- Perform and document quality control procedures and follow quality assurance guidelines
- Screen tests for medical necessity requirements and follow reference laboratory and interface protocols
- Follow drug screening and BAT protocols per client-specific requirements
- Operate, monitor, and maintain laboratory equipment safely and correctly
- Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy for patients from neonatal to geriatric
- Maintain compliance with infection control practices, universal precautions, safety regulations, and applicable regulatory standards
- Complete required education, attend in-services and staff meetings, and review departmental communications
- Adapt to changing workloads and complete patient care duties within scheduled shifts
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, and staff
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
- Promote teamwork, organizational values, and quality and culture initiatives
