Description

PCU

Role Overview

  • Travel/Contract Registered Nurse assignment in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
  • 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
  • 36 hours per week.
  • 13-week contract.
  • Unit can accommodate block scheduling when unit needs are met.
  • Locals are accepted.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Must float to like units.
  • Every other weekend required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
  • 2 years of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience.
  • IV start, vents, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias.
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
  • RTO after booking is not allowed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NIHSS.

Unit Details

  • Mixed acuity PCU and MS/Tele unit.
  • Target ratio is 1:4-5; in extreme situations, 1:6.
  • 48-bed unit.
  • Common patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, and PE.
  • The unit takes chronic trach/vent patients, with no more than one vent patient per nurse.
  • Chest tubes, drips, vents, trachs, BiPAPs, and CPAPs are used on the unit.
  • EPIC is used.

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs are not provided; white or navy blue are required.
