Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC), 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
- Patient Population:
- Cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients (e.g., open heart surgery including CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR)
- Thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
- Esophagogastrectomy
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair (open and endovascular)
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Carotid endarterectomies
- Overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block
- Typical Procedures:
- Epidural management
- Chest tube management
- Tube feedings
- IV gluccomander use
- Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 5 patients; 1 PCT to 13 patients
- Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
- EMR System: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU), including experience within the last year
- Experience in stepdown units
- Telemetry experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Work Environment & Schedule
- Shift: Not specified
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts (day or night) per 6-week schedule period
- Call: No on-call required
- Floating: May float to any stepdown (1:5 ratio) or medical-surgical units (1:6-7 ratio), and ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
