Description

ICU

Overview

  • Travel/Contract role in Winston Salem, North Carolina
  • 13-week assignment
  • Day shift, 3x12 hours: 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
  • 36 or 48 hours per week may be offered
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required as needed to a sister unit that is also an ICCU
  • No block scheduling
  • RTO after booking is not allowed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
  • ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS
  • Experience with arterial lines
  • Experience with titrating vasoactive drips
  • Experience with conscious sedation
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Telemetry - on the unit monitoring
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Blood Product Administration
  • Central line care/management
  • Must have experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Must have experience with telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and telemetry monitoring on the unit
  • Must have experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Must have experience with IV insulin protocols
  • Must have experience with blood product administration
  • Must have experience with central line care/management
  • Must have experience with peripheral line care/management
  • Must have experience with PICC line management
  • Must have experience with heparin protocols
  • Must have experience with CVA
  • Must have experience with chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac
  • Must have experience with external CPAP/BIPAP
  • Must have experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Must have experience with nasal cannula
  • Must have experience with non-invasive airway management
  • Must have experience with tracheostomy management
  • Must have experience with isolation precautions
  • IV start experience
  • EKG testing must be passed prior to start

Unit Details

  • ICU stepdown unit
  • 20 beds
  • Target ratio: 1:3-4
  • Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho surgeries, and pre/post OB with complications
  • Patient ages: adolescent, adult, geriatric
  • Only one pressor drip per patient; additional pressors require transfer to ICU
  • Drips used on the unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
  • Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
  • No vents on the unit
  • Scrubs: navy, white, or a combination of the two
