Description
PCU
Overview
- Travel/Contract role in Winston Salem, North Carolina
- 12-hour day shifts, 4x12 schedule
- 48 hours per week
- Contract length: 16 weeks
- Unit is ICU stepdown / PCU / DOU / IMC / Stepdown and runs more like an ICU
- Target ratio: 1:3-4
- Accepts 1st time travelers
- Locals accepted
- Floating required as needed to a sister unit that is an ICCU
- Every other weekend required
- No block scheduling
- RTO after booking is not allowed
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience with titrating vasoactive drips
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Experience with telemetry and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Experience with management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with telemetry on-the-unit monitoring
- Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
- Experience with IV insulin protocols
- Experience with blood product administration
- Experience with the care and management of invasive lines
- Experience with central line care/management
- Experience with peripheral line care/management
- Experience with PICC line management
- Experience with heparin protocols
- Experience with CVA
- Experience with chest tubes using Emerson/Pleur-evac
- Experience with external CPAP/BIPAP
- Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Experience with nasal cannula
- Experience with non-invasive airway management
- Experience with tracheostomy management
- Experience with isolation precautions
- Experience with IV starts
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Preferred
- Strong drip experience
Unit Details
- 20 beds
- Patient population includes adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Common diagnoses include post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, and ortho surgeries
- Also sees pre/post OB with complications (Pitocin)
- Only one pressor drip per patient on the unit
- Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo drips are given on the unit
- Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
- A-lines, BIPAPs, chest tubes, and trachs are used on the unit
- No vents on the unit
Scheduling / Attendance
- Hospital orientation is during week one and traveler must be available for classes each day
- RTO: 7 days max for Aya auto offer
Scrubs
- Navy, white, or a combination of the two
