Description
MICU RN
Location
- Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, nights
- Every other weekend
Unit Details
- MICU has 20 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 RN to 2 patients
- Travelers float first
- If floated to a lower level of care, the assignment may include 3 patients on stepdown or 4 patients in general med
- 1 PCT to 10 patients
- Intensivists are in house approximately 0700–1900, with tele medicine intensivist support and an attending on call
- Telemetry is monitored by a tele tech, and nurses read and interpret strips
Required Qualifications
- Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- Able to interpret EKG strips
- Able to use an arterial line and central lines
- Proficient in care of the ventilated patient
- Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information
- Common patient types include COVID, Sepsis, ARDS, Pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdraw, and Overdose
- Common titratable medications include vasoactive drugs and cardioactive medications
- RT equipment is present on the unit, and RNs are required to do something with it besides troubleshooting
- Scrubs are not provided; no specific colors are required, but sweatshirts are not allowed
- Orientation includes 8 hours learning Epic and related systems, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor
- Holiday requirements depend on staffing needs
- No call or standby requirement
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
