MICU
Overview
- Travel/Contract assignment in Battle Creek, Michigan
- Day shift: 3x12 hours, 7:00–19:30
- 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Offering up to 26 weeks
- 36 or 48 hour weeks available
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- MICU - Medical Intensive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- MICU - Medical Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with CRRT
- Experience with HD (hemodialysis)
- Experience with A-Line placement
- Experience with CVC (central venous catheter) placement
- Experience with tracheostomy placement
- Experience with chest tube placement
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with IV insulin protocols
- Experience with arterial line management
- Experience with blood product administration
- Pending MI license OK, with concrete ETA at submission and proof of application
- Holidays are required
- No RTO in the first two weeks of assignment
- All RTO must be presented prior to offer
- Will work every other weekend
- 1 professional reference from a supervisor/manager is required
- Complete application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps

Unit Details
- ICU and PCU patient mix
- Patient ratios vary by acuity, including 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 4–3:1
- Vent patients are 2:1
- Cooling, CRRT, or other high-acuity patients are 1:1
- ICU patients may be kept in ICU even if acuity is low
- Average of 3 vents per day
Float Scope
- Floats to other ICU and Med Surg units as needed
- Agency RNs float in rotation with the MICU RNs to med-surg units
Clinical Experience / Skills
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation/management of dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
- IV insulin protocols
- GI surgery
- Chronic/acute renal failure, CVVHD/CRRT
- Arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
- Continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation administration, titrating cardiac drips, titrating vasoactive drips
- CVA/acute stroke management
- Assist with management of BiPAP, CPAP, ventilated patients, HFNC, ABGs, suctioning (ETT, NT), and ventilator management
Special Procedures / Equipment
- CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, chest tube placement
- Cooling machine, Bair Huggers, massive transfusions, CRRT
