Description
Surgery - General (Major) RN
Overview
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Unit: OR (Surgery General (Major))
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days, 10-hour days
- Hours: 40 per week (36 or 40 hours per week based on contract)
- Suites: 14 for general surgery, 28 total
- Average Cases: 20-40 per day for general surgery
- Local Placements: Accepted for clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- BLS certification
- Active Illinois license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- 2 years of general, gyne, and urology experience
- Experience in general surgery, urology, GYN, and ENT
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in facilities and ORs similar in size within the last 2 years
Case Mix
- Lap chole, lap colon, lap appy, cysto, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, urology
Role Details
- Scrubbing is not required for RNs.
- A charge nurse helps with cases.
- RNs work with the surgical technologist in the OR.
- Hospital-provided scrubs.
Schedule and Call
- Shifts are 7:00-17:30 or 12:30-23:00.
- No self-scheduling; block scheduling is determined by need.
- Weeknight call: 1 per week. Call hours are 15:30-23:00, 17:30-23:00, 19:30-23:00, or 23:00-07:00, assigned as a call shift.
- Sleep policy: If working more than 4 hours after 23:00, 8 hours off from clock-out.
- Weekend call: Every other or every third weekend, as a full weekend with a call shift assigned.
- Holiday call: N/A
- Call response time: 30 minutes.
- Call-off policy: 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift.
Float Scope
- May float to other surgery teams or SPD if qualified.
Orientation
- 12 non-billable orientation hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
- Unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus hospital-wide orientation.
Other Requirements
- Must be a negative drug screen for all panels (Drug-Free Campus).
