Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (Surgical)
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks (89 days rounded to 13 weeks)
Job Summary
Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process.
Key Responsibilities
Education
- Identify and meet own learning needs.
- Attend education programs as needed.
- Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assess readiness to learn and developmental level of patients and caregivers.
Evaluation of Care
- Identify expected patient outcomes.
- Seek guidance for revising care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
- Communicate relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
Implementation
- Care for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Follow healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Organize and prioritize care based on patient and family needs.
- Consult appropriate resources for complex care issues and discharge planning.
Leadership
- Develop professional growth goals with assistance.
- Participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Use communication systems effectively.
- Promote cost-effective care.
- Provide feedback to co-workers.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
- Stay aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
Patient Assessment
- Recognize and prioritize data from complex situations.
- Include physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Anticipate discharge needs and develop relationships with families to support advocacy.
Planning
- Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilize multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research
- Stay informed by reading relevant journals and studies.
- Contribute ideas and questions for staff assessment of practice applicability.
