Description

Scrub/Surgical Tech Position

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied


Job Summary

Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon to facilitate a safe, effective, and orderly operating room environment to maximize patient safety. Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required.


Essential Duties

  • Problem-solve related to the surgical procedure being performed
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment, procedures, and supplies
  • Adhere to proper surgical aseptic techniques and safety protocols
  • Perform instrument counts before and during procedures (sponges, needles, instruments)
  • Prepare and secure all supplies and instruments needed for surgery
  • Ensure sterile field preparation and maintenance in the OR
  • Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment
  • Position and reposition patients during surgery
  • Monitor patients during surgery
  • Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase
  • Perform scrub functions
  • Handle and route specimens correctly
  • Maintain knowledge of anatomy/physiology and intraoperative medications
  • Stay current with field developments through seminars, workshops, and publications
  • Follow all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years current experience in a large Operating Room
  • Team player, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Orthopedics, ENT, and/or Vascular surgery a plus
  • Epic system experience preferred but not required (training available on-site)

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus one of the following:
    • Completion of a Surgical Technician training program (verified at interview) or graduation from an accredited school
    • Certified Surgical Technician credential from NBSTSA or NCCT with 10 years of experience

Certifications & Licensure

  • Required: BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross)
  • Preferred: Certified Surgical Technician (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification through NCCT
