Physical Therapist - Acute Care

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages, modifying plans of care as appropriate.
• Serve as a role model in professional service delivery and act as a clinical resource for staff and students.

Essential Functions

• Perform patient transfers with assistance as needed (bed, chair, floor).
• Use safe and appropriate body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
• Treat patients and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect.
• Design and adjust plans of care integrating goals, treatments, outcomes, and discharge plans.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
• Evaluate clinical findings to determine physical therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
• Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
• Produce documentation in accordance with clinical process policies.
• Screen patients to determine the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
• Utilize support personnel legally and ethically, monitoring their care and providing feedback.

Department-Specific Functions

• Implement intervention plans using functional activities considering patient/family emotional and functional needs.
• Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
• Use standardized outcome measures consistently to reflect functional performance.
• Complete documentation per regulatory and organizational standards.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation, providing education and training.
• Supervise PTAs and rehabilitation technicians according to regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate patient status, performance changes, transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly with the medical team.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy (required)

Licensure & Certifications

• Illinois Physical Therapist (PT) License (required)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (American Heart Association) (required)

Experience

• New graduates are considered.
