Job Summary

Responsible for managing respiratory therapy processes including ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration, and airway management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all forms of respiratory therapy and non-invasive cardiology procedures.
  • Interpret and execute physician orders.
  • Individualize therapy to meet patient needs and anticipate patient requirements.
  • Calculate medication dosages and perform patient education.
  • Perform intubations and tracheostomy tube changes as assigned.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, rapid response team calls, and codes.
  • Maintain infection control and use protective equipment appropriately.
  • Perform oxygen rounds and home care instructions, including arranging home oxygen and equipment.
  • Conduct ventilator management and maintenance, including checks every 2 hours and as needed.
  • Set ventilator alarms and document ventilator settings accurately.
  • Participate in patient rounds with physicians when assigned.
  • Perform bedside lab testing (ABGs) and ensure quality control.
  • Document all therapy, ventilator, oxygen, ECGs, and diagnostic tests accurately.
  • Act as a patient advocate and collaborate with healthcare team members.
  • Maintain a clean work area and stock supplies.
  • Remain calm and effective in emergencies and stressful situations.
  • Follow hospital policies and National Patient Safety goals.

Professional Growth & Development

  • Learn new equipment functions and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Complete all mandatory education and attend skill validation offerings.
  • Maintain current licenses and credentials.
  • Act as a resource and participate in clinical instruction of students and healthcare workers.

Required Education

  • Associate’s degree or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Respiratory Care License
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
