Location: Goldsboro, North Carolina

Job Summary
Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process.
Essential Duties
Education
- Participate in identifying and meeting own learning needs.
- Attend education programs based on learning needs.
- Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
- Assess readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Assess developmental level and factors affecting patient learning ability.
Evaluation of Care
- Identify expected patient outcomes.
- Seek guidance for revising plans of care as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
- Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation
- Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Follow healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Organize and prioritize care according to patient and family needs.
- Consult appropriate resources timely for complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning.
Leadership
- Develop goals for professional growth or to minimize limitations with assistance.
- Achieve or renegotiate goals within identified time frames.
- Understand and facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Use communication systems effectively.
- Promote cost-effective care.
- Provide feedback to co-workers.
- Stay aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
Patient Assessment
- Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
- Include physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesize assessment data before communicating with others.
- Assess and anticipate discharge needs of patients and families.
- Develop relationships with families to promote advocacy.
Planning
- Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilize multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Use a full range of communication to convey planning.
- Address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research
- Read relevant journals and studies applicable to practice.
- Bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.
Contract Length
Approximately 13 weeks (89 days converted to weeks).
