Laboratory Director (Travel Position)
Location: Pompton Plains, New Jersey
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied - Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the Manager, Laboratory Operations will coordinate and oversee a wide variety of administrative, personnel, and technical activities to ensure efficient operation of the hospital laboratory. This role serves as an on-site administrative resource and provides direction and supervision to section supervisors, lead technologists, and technologists.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee operations of the Core Lab, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, and Point of Care sections.
- Emphasize quality management and strategic thinking in laboratory management.
- Perform ongoing departmental monitoring to improve quality, workflow, staff productivity, and employee satisfaction.
- Mentor, coach, and develop direct reports.
- Manage departmental budgets and coordinate objectives to improve fiscal and operational performance.
- Oversee daily operations including quality control, instrument maintenance, personnel scheduling, policy interpretation, counseling, inventory, and reference laboratory testing.
- Complete assigned projects and provide reports and evaluations within requested time frames.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation and licensure standards to maintain a high-quality work environment for excellent patient care.
- Maintain professional working relationships with other departments through effective communication.
- Resolve problems by consulting with pathologists, laboratory managers, technical coordinators, laboratory directors, and customer care teams.
- Coordinate regular team meetings and establish communication pathways.
- Monitor workload and adjust operations or staffing to maintain productivity.
- Available to provide consultation as needed via telephone or electronic means; not required to be on-site at all times.
Qualifications
- Must meet current CAP requirements for a laboratory supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a physical, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in high complexity testing in a CLIA/CAP environment.
- ASCP certification or equivalent required.
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years clinical laboratory experience, including at least 3 years of laboratory supervisory experience.
