Job Summary

Under limited supervision, perform routine techniques on surgical, autopsy, and research tissue according to standardized procedures. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment required to perform analysis.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cut surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue using a rotary microtome.
  • Embed surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.
  • Stain, coverslip, and label surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.
  • Perform special stains under supervision according to standardized procedures.
  • Maintain all equipment and instruments; may assist in onboarding others.
  • Mix and maintain all solutions including stains and special fixatives.
  • Maintain and record all QC, CAP, QA instrument function and maintenance records.
  • Maintain current inventory of all reagents and supplies.
  • Adhere to Standard Work for all duties and report deviations for correction.
  • Participate in data collection and quality improvement efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Vision Near Acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
  • Depth Perception: Ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.
  • Accommodation: Ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus.
  • Color Vision: Ability to distinguish and identify different colors necessary for job functions.
