Radiation Therapist Job Opportunity

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Summary

As a Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for delivering ionizing radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. This includes administering precise doses of radiation, preparing and constructing immobilization devices, managing treatment rooms, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the treatment process.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Treatment Management

  • Verify correct patient identity prior to each procedure
  • Deliver radiation treatments accurately and efficiently according to prescriptions and departmental policies
  • Prepare and educate patients and families for simulation and treatment
  • Schedule treatment courses and coordinate with other departments as needed
  • Provide physical support and reassurance to patients during treatment
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report or respond accordingly
  • Maintain detailed treatment records and quality checklists in electronic medical records
  • Report any treatment errors to the physics department and radiation oncologist
  • Communicate effectively within the department and notify patients of any treatment delays
  • Perform weekly chart checks and billing audits
  • Manage and update patient treatment schedules

Radiation Therapy Equipment Management

  • Operate linear accelerators and related radiation therapy equipment following established procedures
  • Perform basic dosimetry calculations
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions
  • Ensure radiation therapy equipment is functioning properly
  • Adhere to radiation protection principles for patients, self, and others
  • Train radiation therapy students

Radiation Therapy Technology

  • Administer prescribed radiation doses using therapy equipment according to standards
  • Prepare immobilization devices and maintain simulation and treatment rooms
  • Operate and verify computer systems including IGRT and Portal vision systems
  • Position patients accurately based on prescriptions and patient charts
  • Document patient photos and treatment data in record and verify systems
  • Assist physicians, physicists, and dosimetrists in preparing radiation treatment plans
  • Perform and deliver Total Body Irradiation (TBI) treatments per protocol

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Skills & Experience

  • Successful completion of a radiation therapy internship
  • Excellent patient relations skills
  • Strong technical and computer skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required

Certifications & Licensure

  • ARRT registration in radiation therapy or board eligible by completing an accredited radiation therapy program
  • Must pass the ARRT board exam within three months of hire
  • Maintain continuing education and ARRT registry in radiation therapy
  • BLS certification with ability to perform CPR in medical emergencies

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in radiation therapy (based on typical internship and professional standards)
