Job Opportunity: RN - Clinical Resource Unit (Float Pool)

Location: Normal, Illinois

Job Summary

  • Provide specialized nursing care across multiple inpatient units including Medical-Oncology, Surgical-Orthopedic, Cardiovascular Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Mental Health Unit, and Acute Rehab.
  • Care for patients with diagnoses such as coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, strokes, cancer, cellulitis, post-surgical care, and chest pain.
  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment utilizing current technology and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the Clinical Resource Unit.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments and develop, implement, and modify individualized care plans.
  • Provide direct nursing care including medication administration, IV venipuncture, blood administration, pain management, and post-operative care.
  • Float to various inpatient units as needed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Document all nursing care accurately using EMR systems.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Provide patient and family education, including discharge instructions.
  • Participate in team huddles and maintain professional communication.
  • Manage acute and chronic cardiac and pulmonary patients.
  • Handle conflict management and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Complete bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, and maintain patient communication boards.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Ability to float and provide care across multiple units and diverse patient populations.
  • Experience managing care for acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
  • Proficient in medication administration and evaluation of medication effects.
  • Skilled in IV venipuncture, blood administration, and preparing patients for procedures.
  • Strong documentation skills using EMR.
  • Ability to educate patients and families effectively.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support peer development.
  • Conflict management and professional communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and nursing judgment to assess and respond to patient status changes.
  • Ability to prioritize patient safety and adhere to safety protocols (fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, ambulation safety).
  • Ability to delegate tasks and ensure follow-up.
  • Effective interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Education & Licensure

  • Required: College diploma in nursing
  • Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), Illinois Nursing License
