Job Opportunity: RN - Patient Care Teams (Hospice Nursing)

Location: Ocala, Florida
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing - Hospice
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Under physician's orders, the nurse is responsible for identifying and coordinating patient and family needs, providing preventative and supportive care to terminally ill patients and their families. The role involves assessment, intervention, and teaching to maximize patient comfort and enhance quality of life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient history and perform age-specific physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments.
  • Coordinate care and develop/update Plan of Care with patient, family, interdisciplinary team (IDT), and physicians.
  • Identify patient and caregiver learning needs and provide appropriate education.
  • Promote a culture of safety by applying best practice safety assessments and infection control principles.
  • Participate in care planning and coordination during IDT meetings.
  • Document care in compliance with organizational standards and policies.
  • Provide support following patient death in collaboration with the IDT.
  • Supervise LPNs and Home Health Aides, including biweekly evaluations and on-site visits.
  • Administer, monitor, and document medications as prescribed.
  • Participate in mandatory trainings, in-services, and skills reviews.
  • Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Maintain up-to-date credentials and continuing education, including CPR, licensure, and TB testing.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience (related experience and/or training).
  • Professional accountability and advocacy for positive change.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage resources effectively and participate in quality improvement.
  • For field-based roles, reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance are required.

Preferred:

  • 1 year experience in acute or post-acute care settings.
  • Experience caring for terminal patients or those with life-threatening illnesses.
  • Ability to type 25 words per minute and pass a computer literacy evaluation.

Education Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Valid BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required.

This position involves providing 24/7 patient care as part of a hospice interdisciplinary team.
