Job Opportunity: RN-OR (Operating Room Registered Nurse)
Job Summary
Provide nursing care for patients in the Operating Room following established standards and practices in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. Apply professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments addressing physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive needs, and functional abilities (20% of time).
- Plan and prioritize care based on assessments; evaluate patient progress and revise care plans accordingly (20%).
- Demonstrate clinical competencies specific to the Operating Room setting (10%).
- Assess patient/family learning needs, provide education, and evaluate teaching effectiveness (10%).
- Address ethical issues in patient care and serve as a resource for ethical dilemmas (10%).
- Collaborate with physicians and coordinate multidisciplinary activities to plan and evaluate patient care (10%).
- Act as a patient advocate (10%).
- Provide nursing care respecting patient diversity and rights; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, patient safety, and quality initiatives (10%).
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to scrub and circulate in the Operating Room.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
- Familiarity with organizational policies and procedures for patient care.
- Awareness of common safety hazards and precautions.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm in emergencies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records and reports.
Licensure and Certification
- Current Registered Nurse license in South Carolina or a current compact/multi-state RN license from a recognized NCSBN Compact State (non-permanent SC resident).
- Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
Education
- BSN preferred or required within five (5) years of hire date.
- RN transfers within the same department are exempt from BSN requirement.
- RN transfers to a different department must complete BSN within five (5) years.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
- Frequent lifting/moving patients; intermittent lifting or pushing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hand/finger dexterity and reaching.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and communicable diseases.
- Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, irregular hours.
- May require taking call and working weekends/holidays.
Contract Length
- Approximately 12 weeks (82 days rounded to 12 weeks).
