Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist II
Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract (Clinical-Allied-Travel)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Prepare and assist with operating room setup tailored to patient age and surgical procedure.
- Knowledge required in surgical pathology, allergies (including latex), special equipment (implants, prostheses, instrumentation), and medications.
- Anticipate surgeon needs; manage supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments 100% of the time.
- Assist in specimen care and labeling.
- Scrub, gown, and glove according to recommended practices and OR policies.
- Conduct instrument inventory counts and ensure no instruments are lost.
- Maintain equipment and supplies through inspection, cleaning, and proper care; report issues promptly.
- Set up back table, instruments, medications, and supplies according to surgery type and service.
- Utilize technical skills to implement care plans with minimal exceptions.
- Comply with unit policies on sterile and contaminated instrument handling.
- Operate sterilizers correctly and verify sterilization conditions.
- Complete all unit-based competencies related to the role.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST-SUR) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting OR National Center for Competency Testing.
- Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists, which may include military surgical training (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service).
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a surgical technologist, including scrubbing in obstetric, gynecology, robotic, laparoscopic, and open cases.
- Experience in two or more surgical specialties required.
- Minimum 2 years experience as a surgical technologist (higher experience requirement between 2 and 3-5 years is 3-5 years, so use 3-5 years).
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM
