Job Description
Under immediate to general supervision, provides technical assistance as a surgical (scrub) technician in operating rooms, labor and delivery, or other surgical procedure areas.
Essential Responsibilities
- Use Physician’s preference cards to prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
- Prepare sterile fields by opening instruments and supplies using sterile technique.
- Perform surgical scrub prior to patient entering the room.
- Assist in draping the patient and preparing the operative field.
- Preserve and correctly identify operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Obtain and ensure proper functioning of special equipment (e.g., electrosurgical machines, diagnostic lights).
- Assist the surgeon by manipulating instruments to improve efficiency and patient safety.
- Observe surgery progress and provide additional instruments or supplies as needed.
- Recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique.
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed.
- Clean or sterilize contaminated instruments and operating room areas; dispose of soiled linen.
- Assist in training surgical technicians.
- May perform clerical and direct patient care activities if assigned to Labor and Delivery.
General Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school/program for Surgical Technicians.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy and first-aid methods.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan (neonate to geriatric).
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data relevant to age-specific needs.
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks (89 days rounded to nearest week).
