Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist performs specialized diagnostic ultrasound procedures using high-frequency sound waves to assist medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities such as masses, abscesses, and stones. The role includes performing portable ultrasound exams, assisting physicians with biopsies and color-flow ultrasound, preparing patients, evaluating image quality, maintaining equipment, and providing technical instruction.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform ultrasound procedures within allotted timeframes
• Use EPIC, Tele tracking, and other computer systems for clerical duties and patient scheduling
• Conduct portable ultrasound exams and complex diagnostic procedures
• Assist physicians during biopsies and deep abdominal studies
• Prepare and position patients for diagnostic imaging
• Evaluate and process ultrasound images according to standard protocols
• Maintain records and archive ultrasound data
• Calibrate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment
• Sterilize instruments and manage supply inventory
• Provide technical assistance and instruction to students and medical residents
• Lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours daily
• Work scheduled shifts including holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call assignments
• Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers, adapting to their specific needs (age, culture, language, disabilities)
• Adhere to organizational policies and standards of behavior

Required Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School
• 2 years of training in Allied Health or College

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound

Certifications & Licensure

• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

Skills & Knowledge

• Ability to perform CPR
• Knowledge of ultrasound equipment functions and controls
• Understanding of equipment service procedures and computer systems
• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology
• Familiarity with safety, infection control, and emergency patient care policies
• Commitment to maintaining Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand for at least 6 hours per day
