Job Opportunity: Scrub/Surgical Tech
Location: Espanola, New Mexico
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective, and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety. Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required.
Essential Duties
- Problem-solve in relation to the procedure being performed
- Maintain current knowledge of various equipment, procedures, and supplies
- Adhere to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment
- Perform instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedures
- Secure and prepare all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures
- Ensure preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR
- Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment
- Position and reposition patient during surgery
- Help monitor patients during surgery
- Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase
- Perform scrub functions
- Ensure specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source
- Maintain current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medications used intraoperatively
- Keep current with developments in the field through seminars, workshops, and publications
- Follow all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Surgical Technician training program
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Orthopedics, ENT, and/or Vascular surgery
- Epic system experience preferred but not required (training available onsite)
Additional Information
- Must be a team player, flexible, and accustomed to a fast-paced environment
- Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required
