Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist - Radiation Oncology

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to patients according to the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accurately deliver the planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
  • Verify patient information and prepare the treatment room and equipment.
  • Monitor patient's condition during treatment, recognize signs of complications, and alert physician or nurse as needed.
  • Explain procedures to patients, including communication methods during treatment and emergency protocols.
  • Reinforce Radiation Oncologist’s advice regarding treatment reactions and patient care.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on all treatment plans prior to treatment.
  • Perform daily image fusion on patient treatments (when applicable) to verify treatment fields.
  • Fabricate custom immobilization devices to accurately align patients for daily radiation therapy.
  • Follow radiation protection principles for patients, self, and others.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance checks on radiation delivery equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in Illinois.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience within the last year.
  • Registered in Radiation Therapy (ARRT).
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate’s Degree in Radiation Therapy.
