Job Opportunity: Surg Tech 1 - Open Heart

Location: Peoria, Illinois

Job Summary

Provides surgical technology support for direct and indirect care during operative/invasive procedures, specifically in open heart surgery. Assists the surgeon by preparing and managing surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring efficiency and accuracy throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up sterile field and scrub prior to induction
• Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are appropriate, complete, and functional
• Organize back table and mayo stand for cases
• Use resources wisely, avoiding unnecessary opening of supplies
• Adapt to surgeon’s technique and preferences, including running mayo independently
• Scrub on simple to complex procedures across various specialties
• Confidently assist during routine and emergency procedures
• Anticipate and provide appropriate equipment and interventions during surgery
• Communicate effectively with surgical team, including verbal and nonverbal cues
• Participate in case closing activities such as dressing application and room turnover
• Maintain patient privacy and promote a positive work environment
• Participate in required call and assist others as needed
• Contribute to quality improvement and efficient unit operations

Required Qualifications

• Valid CVOR Technologist license in Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
• Surgical Technologist experience
• Associate degree in a related field or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
