Job Opportunity: Medical Tech II
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Perform routine and special diagnostic laboratory procedures requiring technical skill, judgment, and independent decision-making. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, accessioning, quality control, instrument operation and maintenance, data evaluation, and assisting with laboratory administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing procedures, quality control, and proficiency testing to ensure accurate and timely results.
- Verify specimen integrity, prioritize tasks, interpret data, and document appropriately.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot issues.
- Use laboratory information systems for ordering, receiving, canceling tests, and documenting results.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow laboratory and hospital policies, maintain safety standards, and participate in continuing education.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with medical necessity and billing regulations.
- May be required to take call and/or work weekends and holidays based on department needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of Medical Lab Technician experience, including experience within the last year.
- Medical Technologist experience.
- ASCP, NCA, or AMT certification.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, or a Bachelor's degree with prerequisite coursework and clinical training.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- May require lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
- Corrected hearing and vision within normal range; normal color perception required.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and biohazardous materials.
- Fast-paced, high-traffic, and potentially stressful laboratory environment.
