Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Broadview, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel Health Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including:

Executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders
Dispensing and administering medications
Assisting providers in examinations and treatment of patients
Applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of inmates/residents
Performing technical/clinical procedures within scope of education and licensure
Attending sick calls with physicians and preparing inmates/residents for examination
Operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documenting per policy
Examining and assessing inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries and referring as needed
Performing emergency procedures and notifying providers for treatment orders
Coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel

Key Responsibilities

Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate
Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
Use sound independent judgment while following corporate, facility, and correctional policies
Evaluate medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records
Assist with review of medical files to ensure documentation of services
Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely
Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances
Observe and record inmate/resident behavior
Inspect medical unit for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment
Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
Assist in preparing and maintaining various medical and operational records and reports
Interpret medical, technical, governmental, legal, and non-legal documents
Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary
Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports and take action in serious incidents and emergencies

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 1 year of correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year
