Surgical Technician 1 - OR

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Apply principles of asepsis to maintain a sterile environment during surgical setup and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and knowledge base relevant to surgical technology.
  • Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients following department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and self, adhering to safety and legal requirements.
  • Participate in room turnover and setup for subsequent patients efficiently.
  • Maintain and clean surgical equipment, identify items needing repair, and perform sterilization and disinfection per policy.
  • Assist with obtaining supplies, equipment, positioning devices, and patient positioning for procedures.
  • Perform scrubbing duties, including assisting with educational classes for medical students and residents.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of surgical technician experience.
  • Ability to independently scrub basic surgical procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for surgical patient care.
  • Understanding of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers as related to surgical care.
  • Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork.
  • Proficient in applying sterile technique principles during surgical procedures.
